Top 5 best free revision apps:

Having a quick way to access information or quizzes can be really useful when revising. Revision apps are a great, fun and tech-savvy way to revise without having to fill up your school bag with heavy books and old crumpled up worksheets.

Apps are growing rapidly and it’s no wonder why students use them when you are able to access the information instantly and all from one device. Down below is what we think are the top 5 best free revision apps for GCSE to help you get the best results.

Khan academy:

Khan academy offers many different videos and topics to help your learning for each subject. With each video it works though examples and covers the basics of that topic. In addition, everything that has been said in the video has been written down below so you can read along whilst the video is playing.

Furthermore, you can go through pre-set ‘lessons’ which will teach you information for a specific topic and then it will be followed by a quiz testing your knowledge and memory.

There are also end of unit tests which cover the whole topic.

Gojimo:

Gojimo is a quiz app which tests you on your knowledge and offers many GCSE and A-level subjects for several different exam boards. It includes multi-choice questions with 4 options for every topic.

In the settings, it allows you to choose the number of questions in each quiz ranging from 5 to 25 so you are able to have a quick review or a longer test. At the end of each quiz, you are shown your percentage that is correct and are shown an explanation for each answer to help you learn from any mistakes or recap over any information.

If you wish to challenge yourself further, all you need to do is select for a timer to limit the thinking time you are allowed for each question.

Memrise:

Memrise is a great app for any Language students who wish to broaden their vocabulary or to revise key words for GCSE.

It has many different learning methods for the words such as: choosing the English equivalent, translating the English into your chosen language, and then picking the English translation from an audio clip.

The multiple different methods to learning new words helps you to remember words more fluently and can suit any type of learner (e.g. audio).

Memrise also states the words you have learnt and you can work towards daily targets for example to learn 5 new words every day.

BBC Bitesize:

On BBC Bitesize, you choose your GCSE subjects to focus your learning on what you need. They then allow you to select your exam board so you have the correct content and, furthermore, it offers flashcards and quizzes for you to select from.

Once you’ve gone through a topic, you have a 5-question quiz which covers the topic and you will get a score and feedback showing which questions you got right and which you got wrong.

It does not offer GCSE information for you to access unless you visit it via their website.

Brainscape:

Although it does not directly offer any GCSE content, Brainscape is an online revision card app that allows you to write your own flash cards and answers. You can create classes and topics to cover all the content for your subjects.

You are shown a flashcard and are asked to select on a 1-5 scale on how confident you were with that answer. If you select a 1, it will show the card again more frequently and if you select a 5 it will show the card a lot less often.

You can also search for flashcards written by other people and add them to your area where you can use them and view them.
