The essentials for your GCSE Exam Pencil Case:

It is essential you have the right tools and resources to do your exam. It is definitely worth being prepared and ensuring you have all the correct equipment for your exam.

Although you can ask the invigilator for equipment, it is better to make sure you have all the right stuff first as it can take them a while to respond especially if they are dealing with others students which may end up being some crucial last minutes to score a few more marks.

The more prepared you feel the smoother your experience is likely to go. So, getting it right first time will help you. Here below are our essentials for your exam/mock pencil case.

A pencil

You will be required to use a pencil, even if you don’t take Art. Core subjects such as science require diagrams drawn in pencil and graphs in maths.

Several Black Biro/Ballpoint Pen:

This item is obvious for any pencil case, but it’s also important you remember to pack at least 3 pens. I find 3 is a good number in case your extremely unlucky and 2 run out in one day (I can say that’s happened to me).

I do however emphasise the black and biro/ballpoint as for your exams you must write in black pen and it can’t be gel pen or erasable pens. This this is because in your GCSE’s your paper is photocopied and such pens do not show up on photocopy properly.

Highlighters:

These are great for highlighting key points and command words in the question so you don’t misread it and know exactly what the examiner is looking for and asking.

A Ruler:

A ruler is needed frequently, particularly for maths when drawing shapes and diagrams.

The best type of ruler to have is long shatter resistant one, they are long lasting and are a lot less likely to snap and cause any disruptions.

A pair of Compasses and A Protractor:

These are essential maths equipment for your maths paper, it is not impossible you will have a question that is required to use them.

An eraser:

An eraser is essential especially in graph questions where if you make a mistake you are not able to just cross out the answer. We all make mistakes in an exam, so remember an eraser.

A Scientific Calculator:

You will need a scientific calculator as some cheaper more basic calculators do not have the π (Pi) button on which you need to use in maths.

An example of a scientific calculator would be the fx-83GT PLUS.

A Pencil sharpener:

Pencil sharpeners are essential to sharpen your pencil and assure its usable in your exam.
